MSI’s Leopard series is a good option if you want a gaming PC that doesn’t break the bank but is still more modestly equipped than the most expensive models available. The MSI GE66 Raider and the Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 both use high-end processors, but the 2021 GP66 Leopard brings that technology to a more inexpensive and underwhelming chassis for a price of $1,599 to $1,899.
Components like the eight-core Core i7-10870H processor and the brand-new RTX 3070 mobile graphics card from Nvidia are standard fare in high-end gaming laptops.
For that reason, the GP66 is the obvious choice. You can obtain top-tier gaming performance at a budget price if you’re ready to give up a few features (like a fancy chassis or long battery life). The RTX 3070 is largely responsible for this, but it’s still one of the finest GPUs for under $2,000 overall.
This year’s GP65 Leopard has been updated into the GP66 Leopard. There was at least one additional substantial update to MSI’s design in addition to the RTX 3070. While the alterations are minor, they do help to give the computer a more polished, less “gaming” appearance.
Features
Instead of the MiniDP port seen on the GP66 10UG’s predecessor, MSI included a USB-C connector. MSI goes backwards with the latest GP66 11UH, which is a good thing, and brings back the Mini DisplayPort. However, the USB-C port is also removed by the manufacturer.
As a result, the GP66 Leopard stands alone among current laptops in its lack of a USB-C connector. Since a USB-C connector is now the industry norm, we are puzzled as to why MSI decided to do this.
As a result, there are just three USB ports available on the laptop. Moreover, there is no SD card reader. The remaining ports are evenly spaced over the case’s three faces (left, right, and back). In this regard, MSI deserves a lot of credit; despite the limited number of ports, the company wisely left a lot of room between them.
The only bulky ports (HDMI, DP, LAN, power) are on the back, while just the USB-A port and the headset jack are on the sides.
