Graphic Card: The Main Part of MSI Gaming GS63

Well on the whole, the MSI Stealth Pro GS63VR is a fantastic replacement for the Ghost Pro GS60. The hardware within is a fantastic addition to the increased style and construction quality.

I have no complaints about its portability or performance as a work laptop, and if you can stand the heat, it’s also an excellent gaming rig.

There is a good IPS FHD panel, a terrible FHD TN panel, and a pricey and highly power demanding 4K choice for the display. Find out why in the next paragraphs.

MSI also provides the market with the stealthy and lightweight GS63VR Pro. Although it is essentially an updated version of MSI’s Ghost Pro GS60, it is going by the Stealth moniker instead. However, this is the 15-inch model of their thin and light line, and holy cow, is it a powerful Mac.

After using the GS73VR, I was eager to learn more about the GS63VR. On paper, it’s essentially a 15″ replica of the original. It sports a new chassis design like the GS73VR.

My curiosity about this model stems from my experience as a previous owner of the GS60 and my want to determine whether or not I would prefer it to the bigger GS73VR. Thankfully, a buddy of mine had recently purchased one and graciously offered to lend it to me for a short period of time.

Design of MSI GS63

When I initially picked up the laptop, I was blown away. Compared to the original MSI Ghost Pro GS60, this new model is much more compact.

We may attribute these improvements to the thinner profile, less weight, and smaller footprint. This laptop’s lightness (it weighs in at just under 4 pounds) and power (it can run many programmes at once) are its two best selling points.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The GS63VR shares the same Steelseries keyboard seen on the GS73VR and the most recent iteration of the GS60. Simply put, it has one of the greatest keyboards among thin laptops. I could just copy and paste my thoughts from other publications, but I’m pleased to elaborate once again.

Ultimately, I think the machine’s best features are the keyboard and trackpad. Even though a glass trackpad would be lovely, it’s encouraging to see things holding steady rather than reversing course. Except for MSI improving their quality control, there is nothing I would alter about the keyboard.

Display of GS63 MSI

If you’re interested in technical details, the panel is an LG IPS display with a 15.6″ screen and the model number LP156WF6-SPK1. The maximum resolution is 1920×1080, and the refresh rate is 60 frames per second.

The primary problem is the color space, unfortunately. Using a Spyder4Pro, I found that sRGB was only 65%, NTSC 47%, and aRGB 49%. The GS60’s FHD display had sRGB coverage in the mid-90s, so this is a considerable drop.

I didn’t need a special programme to see that the colors on the desktop were drab; I saw it the instant I booted up the machine. Some people could get by with this display, but anyone who edits images or video, or who compares it to a high-quality monitor, could have second thoughts.

Battery life of MSI GS63

To test the battery life of the Full HD model, I turned off the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and played a 720p movie on loop in full screen with the volume muted, using the device’s default “Power Saver” power profile.

The clock begins ticking when I disconnect it and stops when it powers down by itself.

There was a respectable 5 hours and 17 minutes of runtime on the MSI GS63VR FHD model before it stopped down.

Hardware, Performance in Gaming MSI GS63

The Skylake i7-6700HQ is a quad-core CPU found in the Stealth Pro GS63VR. This is the best CPU you’ll find in a laptop of this size until the quad-core Kaby Lake models become available, and it makes opening apps and running them quickly. Never have I had an issue with a laptop using this CPU.

For the record, I’m running all my tests on a brand new installation of Windows before I go any further. The MSI version seems to include a lot of unnecessary extras that slow down the computer.

After a clean setup and a fast installation of the most recent drivers, the stuttering trackpad and extremely sluggish programme loading times vanished.

To be housed in such a compact form factor, the GTX 1060 is a really powerful graphics card. As silly as it seems, I was first worried about thermals. The graphics card, however, does a great job overall and provides decent to good gaming performance.

The GPU’s video memory (VRAM) capacity of 6 GB should be more than sufficient for most users.

Conclusion

On the whole, the MSI Stealth Pro GS63 is a fantastic gaming laptop. The hardware within is a fantastic addition to the increased style and construction quality. It’s encouraging to see MSI reduce the size and thickness of the case without compromising on cooling or performance.

The best thing about this model is how well it juggles power with mobility. I have no complaints about how easy it was to operate or how well it worked for me as a tool for getting things done. If you can stand the heat, it’s also a very good gaming model.

It’s not easy to find a laptop with a GTX 1060 that’s as tiny and light as the GS63VR. The Gigabyte Aero 15, Asus ROG GL502, Acer Predator Helios 300, and Acer Aspire V15 Nitro series are the closest competitors, but they’re all at least an inch thick, while larger laptops like the Lenovo Legion Y720 and Eluktronics P650 are two inches or more.

It’s important to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of each choice, but the MSI GS63 is the smallest. The GL502 series also has a GTX 1070 variant, which may sway your decision.
