If you’re looking for a gaming laptop in 2022 and beyond, look no further than the Alienware m15 R7. This RTX 3070 Ti system isn’t flawless, but it has almost everything you’d want in a portable gaming rig and none of the things you wouldn’t.
The m15 R7 has all the features you need to play your favorite games, even in 4K if necessary: a strong processor, a sleek black chassis, and a comfortable keyboard.
The Alienware m15 R6, which we evaluated just last month and praised for its strong gaming and productivity capabilities as well as its high-resolution 240Hz screen, leaves large shoes for the m15 R7 to fill.
We can take heart in the fact that the latest Alienware appears to be up to the challenge at hand, as it is a sleek 1440p gaming machine sporting a cutting-edge 12th-generation Intel processor and an RTX 3070 Ti at its heart.
The m15 R7 has the same trademark indented screen hinge and a lengthy ring of RGB lights at the back edge as other recent Alienware laptops.
The Alienware logo is lit up in brilliant blue on the lid. We can’t hold it against Dell that they are continuing to use this time-tested design; after all, if it isn’t broken, why fix it?
Can we do gaming in the Alienware M15 R7 AMD for long hours?
When compared to other gaming laptops like the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, the Alienware m15 R7’s battery life is disappointingly typical. The included 89Wh battery barely lasts more than three hours in our tests, and that’s with all the unnecessary RGB lighting turned off to save juice.
Outside of games, video playback runs approximately four hours, so you should be able to watch a movie without having to plug in if you start with a full charge.
However, if you play games with all the visual effects turned up to 11, your battery life is not going to last more than two hours without an external power source. There are a lot of gaming laptops that are basically identical, but we’ve also seen some very great ones.
Should you buy the Alienware m15 R7 for Gaming?
If you’re a framerate hound and prefer to crank up the graphics on your games, read on. YES. For competitive esports players, the Alienware m15 R7 is the laptop of dreams, allowing them to achieve ultra-high framerates in today’s AAA games.
But if we talk about Battery Backup it last just for 3 hours, which is not substantial for Commuter gamers. Because in that aspect gamers like to have bigger battery backup as well apart from processor, as in these price range you can get ROG laptop and it gives 5 hours bigger battery backup than this one.
Is It Value for Money, if Glance at Each and Every Aspect
A big ’15’ etching covers a fourth of the lid, and the hexagon-patterned grille for the speakers and air intake still stands above the keyboard. Both the Alienware logo and the power button are lighted by RGB LEDs, and the screen still has a bezel around the back.
This is OK; the design has become a hallmark of Dell’s gaming laptop line over the past few years, and though we’d welcome some variation, it’s not terribly dated. The all-plastic construction is noticeable (especially in the more expensive models), but the matte surface is attractive and effectively hides fingerprints.
The Alienware M15 R7 is most famous for its 360Hz display, and we’re happy to report that it’s also a very competent monitor in every other respect. The maximum brightness is satisfactory, and while not the finest we’ve seen in a gaming laptop, the colors are vibrant and crisp. If you really need that much more pixels, you can get a 1440p model with a 240Hz refresh rate.
The keyboard is rather decent, with sufficient key travel (about 1.8mm) to reduce typos to a minimal. Given its plastic composition, it’s not surprising that the keyboard bends slightly with heavy pressure on the center row of keys. Even though the trackpad should be larger, it is very responsive, and you should hook up a mouse for gaming anyhow.
